So I’ve decided to start blogging. Why?
In a nutshell, I want to be a better Tester and I want to record my progress, mainly for my future self, but also for any other Tester who feels they could do better by themselves.
Before you all start, I’ll qualify “better” later.
I have been testing for some 10 years now, and to be fair, I have mostly only done it because
- It was my 1st job out of uni
- I can do it
- Its allowed me to earn a nice living
- I haven’t had the inclination to retrain in other discipline
I haven’t really enjoyed it as much as other testers I see in the industry & I don’t feel I have done myself justice.
This view has changed since working with my current client - They have implemented an agile development process (Lean XP) and I have to admit I am really enjoying it. It (agile) just makes sense.
Since having my twin girls, life has gone by in a bit of a blur. I have been focussed on meeting my family’s needs without much time to look up.
Well, things have calmed down somewhat, and we’re in a nice routine at home, so I have more time to focus more on my career and prepare for when my current contract comes to an end.
Fortunately, my current assignment does not finish until the end of June 2011, so I’ve got plenty of time to study & make myself more marketable.
I’ve decided to take a 2-prong approach to my self study :
- Improve & strengthen my testing knowledge, especially in an agile environment
- Increase my knowledge & understanding of programming languages & design solutions
I’ll outline my high level goals in another post as I believe my goals my change over the coming months, and I’m not entirely sure where my self study will take me.
Feel free to join me on my journey, and please provide any feedback you think will help get to where I want to be.
Well thats all for now, thanks for listening
